Paris Couture, Spring 2009: Elie Saab

Channelling the romance and structure of Haiku poetry as well as the architectural edge of 60s glamour, Elie Saab's Spring 2009 Haute Couture collection offered plenty of voluminous shapes, graphic cuts and origami folds. The palette consisted of pale pastels in lamé, embossed silks, brocades and chiffons. Signature Saab embellishement abounded--crystals sprinkled across a shoulder, rich jewel ornamentation. Front-rower Mischa Barton loved "the dress with the weird hips," a beige embellished number with an open back, while actress Michelle Yeoh could see herself in some on the red carpet. "The clothes are very striking and they are a great form for the feminine figure," she explained. "The work is sexual without being overtly sexy."

Comeback Kid

AFTER 5 years away from the world's runways, Maria Grachvogel is set to make a welcome return to the catwalk at the Hospital Club during London Fashion Week.
As evidenced by this exclusive sketch, Grachvogel's autumn/winter 2009-10 show will be one inspired by structure and texture, sculpture and shape, with plenty of wearable pieces in leather and organza for women who are looking for that "natural confidence that only comes from knowing you look absolutely stunning."
But is the designer a little bit daunted by her imminent return? "Showing at
London Fashion Week is always very exciting and is loaded with enormous pressure," said Grachvogel. "This is my 15th year in business and to show in my home town amongst my peers and some of the most influential people on the global fashion scene is a huge honor."

The Wedding Planner

BRIDES-TO-BE, be sure to cancel your plans for the weekend and head, instead, to the Designer Wedding Show, which once again takes place in Battersea Park until February 15. A chance to work out those all-important decisions - the dress, the cake, the flowers - all under one roof, you'll be able to see the latest collections from the likes of Valentino, Elie Saab, Pronovias, Temperley London and Jasper Conran to name but a few, as well as see the latest millinery and accessory offerings from Edwina Ibbotson and Emmy respectively. And it doesn't stop there - plan your centre pieces, photographers, marquees, travel, food and catering with the help of the 130 companies that, in total, will be taking part. The Designer Wedding Show is open from 10am until 5pm from February 13 to 15. Tickets cost £16 in advance or £18 on the door and all fashion shows are included in the ticket price.

Carine Roitfeld said to launch biannual teen edition of French Vogue

Who says the publishing world is uniformly contracting? The Daily heard that Carine Roitfeld is busy tapping junior fashionettes from her inner circle to edit a youth-focused edition of French Vogue, which will be published biannually. More details are trickling in, and we're still awaiting official response from Carine and Co., but any editorial content from the offspring of Roitfeld's intimates like Fabien Baron, Victoire de Castellane, Emmanuelle Alt, or Patrick Demarchelier would certainly revitalize the newsstand.
